Counselor's Corner

My name is Lilian Guzman and I am so honored to be the counselor at Petrosky Elementary. This is my 15th year in Alief ISD,  Prior to being a counselor, I was a First Grade Bilingual Teacher for 3 years at Hearne Elem. I graduated from Houston Baptist University (HBU) and received my Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education and my Masters degree in School Counseling from University of Houston (Clear-Lake). I am originally from El Salvodor (Central America) but raised here in Texas since I was 5 years old.  I have  two older sisters and had 1 older brother. I am  recently married and have a wonderful and beautiful daughter who will start 2nd grade this year. I love spending time with my family, trying new foods/restaurants and working out.
I truly enjoy being a school counselor! I truly understand why I chose to be a counselor for our children in Elementary. It is my passion to work with children. I love advocating for them and being their voice. I believe my purpose in life is to guide children to be the best that they can be and give them the tools necessary in order to succeed in life. I want to bring hope into their lives no matter the struggles they encounter at school, home or out in the world. I want to build their self-esteem so they can have the courage to go for their dreams. I want to inspire them to spread kindness and make the world a better  place for them. I want them to learn to appreciate and respect different cultures. My desire is to have them see the importance of social emotional learning and how that will help them with their behavior and academics.
I know last year was not a normal school year for all of us.  It is okay to feel a little scared or nervous because this is all different to us. We are all in this together, We will help each other to keep safe while we adjust to a different way of learning.  I will do my very best to support your social, emotional and academic needs.  I am always here to listen to what is in your heart.  You are not alone. Your counselor cares very much about you! My focus this year is to create meaningful relationships with all students and staff. Make sure the counseling program is impactful as we build wonderful memories.
If you have any questions about the counseling program, or if you would like to refer your child, please feel free to contact me.I look forward to working with you this year!
Sincerely,

Lilian Guzman
